Designed by Fifth Guru Arjan, the foundation stone was laid by Muslim Sufi saint Hazrat Mian Mir. Unlike traditional Hindu temples built high on hills, Harmandir Sahib was built at a lower level with four entrances, signifying humility and open welcome to all castes and creeds.

1. The Sarovar: The Pool of Nectar

The central sanctum sits surrounded by the *Amrit Sarovar*, reflecting the golden copper gilding and harmonizing architecture with aquatic serenity.
